Counselling for ENM and Polyamorous relationships

Whether you’re polyamorous, in an open relationship, exploring non-monogamy, or just working out what you want, you don’t need to justify your relationships to me. I’m Julie Grucza, and I offer affirming counselling for ENM and polyamorous people and their partners, in person and online.

I also work with monogamous relationships. I don’t treat any one structure as the “right” one. My role is to help you understand what’s happening between you and what each of you needs, not to steer you towards a particular arrangement.

You might come to counselling if...

  • You’re exploring non-monogamy or opening a relationship and want space to talk it through

  • Jealousy, insecurity or comparison keeps coming up

  • You’re renegotiating agreements, boundaries or expectations

  • One partner is more interested in non-monogamy than the other

  • You’re feeling stretched by time, energy or communication across relationships

  • You keep having the same conflict, or struggle to repair after it

  • You want support from someone who won’t treat your relationship style as the problem

How I work

In relationship counselling I draw on Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT). We look at the pattern that plays out between you when things get hard, and at the feelings and needs underneath it. Sessions can also include conversations about boundaries, agreements and change, with respect for each person’s autonomy.

My practice is also LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming, and I offer kink/BDSM-affirming and sex worker-affirming support. If those parts of your life overlap with your relationships, you don’t need to explain or separate them.

Who I work with

I see individuals and couples/partners and can discuss working with more than two people. Individual sessions are for people who are exploring non-monogamy, struggling in or after a relationship, or wanting support without their partner(s) involved.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be in a relationship to come?
No. You’re welcome to come on your own, whether you’re curious, exploring or in the middle of a change.

Do you think non-monogamy is the answer, or the problem?
Neither. I don’t hold a view about which structure is right for you. We’ll work on what’s happening for you and what you want.

Can we come as a couple even if we have other partners?
Yes.

Is this confidential?
Yes, within the limits of confidentiality set out in my privacy policy.

What will the first session look like?
Your first session is about getting to know each other and understanding what’s brought you here. We’ll talk about your goals and the pace you’d like to go at, and you can see whether I feel like the right fit. You don’t need to know exactly what you want from counselling, and you never have to share anything you’re not ready to. I follow your lead. We’ll also go through the practical details, including confidentiality and how our sessions will work. In relationship counselling, I’ll make room for each person’s perspective, and we’ll talk about what each of you hopes to get from the sessions.

Not sure if I’m the right fit? Book a free 15-minute call to ask questions first, or book a session directly.

Sessions are available in person in Sherwood and Milton, and via telehealth Australia-wide, including walk-and-talk counselling.
