Kink, BDSM and sex worker-affirming counselling in Brisbane and online

You don’t have to explain, justify or tone down your life to be understood here. I’m Julie Grucza, and I offer affirming counselling for adults in kink, BDSM and fetish communities and for sex workers, in person and by telehealth.

Many people in these communities have had experiences of being judged, pathologised or misunderstood by services, so I want to be clear about where I stand. I don’t treat your sexuality, kink or work as a problem, and I don’t assume that it’s the reason you’ve come to counselling.

You might come to counselling if...

  • You want to talk about kink, BDSM or fetish interests without being judged or pathologised

  • You’re exploring or negotiating kink in a relationship, or you and a partner want different things

  • You’re navigating boundaries, consent and communication in your relationships or scenes

  • You’re a sex worker looking for support with stress, burnout, stigma or boundaries, or with anything unrelated to your work

  • You feel you need to hide parts of your life, or carry shame about being misunderstood

  • You’re navigating a big change, such as starting or leaving sex work, or disclosing to someone

  • You’re part of a kink or sex working community and want a counsellor who is open to the realities of your life

How I work

My approach is client-led and trauma-informed. You decide what you share and the pace we go at, and I don’t have a fixed idea of how your life should look. My practice is also LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming and ENM/polyamory-affirming, so if those parts of your life overlap, you don’t need to separate them.

For couples and partners, I draw on Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) to understand the patterns between you and the needs beneath them, with attention to consent, communication and respect for each person’s autonomy.

Who I work with

I welcome adults across the kink and BDSM community, including people who practise in a relationship, in community spaces or professionally, as well as people exploring their interests for the first time. I also welcome sex workers in any part of the industry, whether that’s escorting, stripping, camming, online or in-person work, or others. This page is for adults 18 and over.

Privacy and confidentiality

What you share with me is confidential, within the limits set out in my privacy policy, which I’ll go through with you at the start. You will also find information regarding how records are kept and any legal requirements. Privacy and confidentiality will be outlined and discussed during our first session.

Ways to meet

Sessions are available in person in Sherwood or Milton, by telehealth Australia-wide, or as walk-and-talk counselling. Telehealth can be useful if privacy, discretion or schedule makes in-person sessions harder.

Frequently asked questions

  2. Do I need to talk about my kink or my work?
Only if you want to. Some people come to talk about it, and others come for something completely different.

No. I don’t have a view on whether you should leave or stay. My role is to support you and what you want.

  4. Do you have experience with kink and sex work?
I do have lived experience within the Kink and BDSM communities. Regarding sex work, I’m committed to ongoing learning and training in this area, and I’m happy to answer questions about how I work in a free call.
