Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know what to talk about?

No. You do not need to arrive with the perfect words, a clear goal, or a neatly organised story. Many people begin counselling with only a sense that something feels heavy, confusing, stuck or hard to carry alone. We can start wherever you are.

What if I am nervous?

That is completely understandable. Starting counselling can feel vulnerable, especially if you have had difficult experiences with support before. We will move at your pace, and you are welcome to ask questions, pause, take your time, or let me know what helps you feel more comfortable.

Do you work with neurodivergent clients?

Yes. I offer neurodiversity-affirming counselling and welcome ADHD, autistic and otherwise neurodivergent clients. My aim is not to help you mask harder or become more acceptable to others, but to support you in understanding your needs, patterns, strengths, limits and ways of living more sustainably.

Do you support LGBTQIA+ clients?

Yes. A Beautiful Mess Counselling & Psychotherapy is LGBTQIA+ affirming. You are welcome here whether you are confident in your identity, questioning, exploring, grieving, celebrating, or simply wanting support from someone who will not ask you to justify who you are.

Do you offer NDIS sessions?

Yes. I offer NDIS counselling support for eligible participants where counselling aligns with their goals and plan. NDIS sessions may support emotional regulation, adjustment, self-advocacy, communication, relationships, identity, coping strategies and wellbeing. Please enquire so we can discuss suitability and plan requirements.

Do you work with ENM, polyamorous or kink-involved clients?

Yes. My practice is ENM/polyamory-affirming, kink-aware and sex-positive. I work with individuals, couples and diverse relationship structures. You do not need to explain or defend your relationship style, sexuality or community before we can begin meaningful counselling work.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what has brought you to counselling. We may talk about what is happening now, what support you are looking for, what has helped or not helped before, and what you would like counselling to feel like.

You do not need to tell me everything at once. We will focus on building safety, clarity and a shared sense of how we might work together.

Can I do telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth counselling is available by enquiry. Online sessions can be a helpful option if you prefer the comfort of your own space, have transport or accessibility needs, live outside the local area, or need more flexible support.

What if I am in crisis?

A Beautiful Mess Counselling & Psychotherapy is not a crisis service, and emails or website enquiries are not monitored for urgent support.
